Stein Eriksen was born in Oslo, Norway. He was an Olympic alpine skier who won gold and silver medals in the giant slalom at the 1952 Olympic Games. Eriksen was the first male alpine ski racer from outside the alps to win an Olympic gold medal. He is thought to have revolutionized the sport of sking, having created "aerials" with his gymnast background, and serving as a ski instructor for many years in the Unisted States. Up until the time of his death, he was the director of skiing at a resort in Utah. He also has a ski resort named after him in Deer Valley, Utah. Eriksen died on December 27th, 2015 at the age of 88 in Park City, Utah. He leaves behind his wife and five children.
