Howard Davis Junior was born February 14th, 1956 in Glen Cove, New York. He was the eldest of 10 children. His interest with boxing was sparked at a young age after learning the sport from his father, and watching a movie about Muhammed Ali. He then embarked on an athletic career in the sport, and in 1976, he won the Olympic gold medal in boxing. This feat helped him earn the Val Barker Trophy at the Olympics. After the Olympics, he turned professional and boxed for another 20 years. He ended his professional career with a record of 36-6-1 and 14 knock outs. He retired in 1996 and then became a trainer, motivational speaker, and musician. He died from lung cancer on December 30th, 2015. He was 59 years old.
